If you like the outdoors, fishing, bird watching, hiking, hunting and nature in general, you'll love spending your vacation at the Chequamegon Waters Cabin in scenic north-central Wisconsin. The rental cabin is ideally located on the banks of the Yellow River over looking the Chequamegon Waters Flowage (a.k.a. Miller Dam Flowage) in the Chequamegon National Forest.

Ted and Margie Thorgerson are the owners of Chequamegon Waters Cabin and will be your congenial hosts during your stay. They are long-time residents of Taylor county so will be able to answer nearly all your questions about the area and its offerings. Ted spends many hours fishing and hunting the area and at certain times of the year will be available for fishing and hunting guide services. Ted and Marge want to make your stay an enjoyable one. The Chequamegon Waters Cabin is available for rent from May 1st through December 1st. Be sure to make your reservations early. The sturdy log construction offers the comforts of home, including:
The cabin can be rented by the day or by the week. It sleeps seven people comfortably and a hard-side camper is also available for extra sleeping facilities. Check in time is 3:00 pm. Check out time is 10:00 am.

ATV Trails: Access to ATV trails - some of which run through the scenic and wild areas of the Chequamegon National Forest.
Biking: A new bike trail that runs along the scenic Chequamegon Waters Flowage has just been added to the Chequamegon National Forest. Access to the bike trail is easy - the new trail passes right by the end of the Cheqmamegon Water's Cabin driveway. Enjoy a peaceful nature ride in this low traffic trail through the National Forest.
Fishing: Panfish, largemouth bass and northern pike fishing right on the 2,715 acre Chequamegon Waters Flowage (also known as the Miller Dam Flowage) is excellent as evidenced by the numerous bass fishing tournaments held here each year. Fish from the dock or rent one of our boats. There is a public boat landing about a quarter mile away and there are many other lakes and rivers in the area for you to explore as well. Just ask Ted for suggestions or check to see if he is available as your personal guide.
Hunting: Whitetail deer, black bear, coyote, bobcat, snowshoe hare, squirrel, cottontail, geese, ducks and ruffed grouse are all game species that are hunted in the area. The surrounding Chequamegon National Forest is a huge wildlife reservoir that makes this one of the premier hunting areas in the state. Make reservations for your upcoming hunting trip early!
Hiking: The Ice Age Trail (click for more information and maps) is one of the real gems of the area. It passes through Taylor county and provides a first-hand look at the geologic features that make up our state. For the more adventurous, there are numerous wild and scenic areas within Chequamegon National Forest, all of which are open to hiking, exploration and photography. Hiking the area is a wonderful way to experience the plants and wildlife of our area and walking up and down the glacially formed slopes is also a great way to keep in shape.
Nature & Bird Watching:
While wildlife and nature can be enjoyed here year round, birding enthusiasts are in for a real treat if they can plan their trip to the cabin during Spring migration. Tundra and trumpeter swans, various mergansers, ducks, eagles, osprey, shorebirds and numerous warblers can all be expected to be seen from the front door of the cabin!! Dancing sharptail grouse can be enjoyed in the nearby Pershing Wildlife Area - a state owned area that is managed for waterfowl, sharptails and other grassland species.

Down payment of $89.00 is required to reserve a date. If paying by check, the check must be received at least 2 weeks prior to your stay so that there is time for it to clear the bank.
Arrivals: Upon check-in, the balance of rental payment is due as well as any deposit for watercraft rental.
Cancellations: Your deposit will only be refunded if your cancellation has been made at least 45 days prior to the reservation arrival date and your time has been re-rented at the established rate. If your stay has been re-rented, we will refund your deposit, less a $50 rebooking fee. If a reservation is not re-rented, you are legally financially responsible for your entire stay. No refunds will be given on cancellations less than 45 days prior to the reservation date. Deposits are applied to the last day of your stay. "No Shows" will be responsible for their entire reservation and will be charged.
The Mondeau Flowage, the other large flowage in this section of the Chequamegon National Forest, the Ice Age Trail, Wildlife Watching Points and numerous lakes, streams and rivers can be found close by - all within the boundaries of the surrounding Chequamegon National Forest.
Timm's Hill, Wisconsin's highest point, is a short scenic drive from the cabin, as is the Pershing Wildlife Area.
You can pick up supplies in the town of Gilman (10 miles) or the city of Medford which is about 25 miles away. Both Gilman and Medford offer eating establishments, shopping, gas etc. Information on all Taylor county communities, other area information and a calendar of Taylor County events can be found on the Focus on Taylor County web site. You can even purchase wild rice on line that Ted has havested from the clear waters of the Chequamegon Water's Flowage from the Taylor County Shopping Mall.
